How to Show Seat Numbers on KDS Tickets

Introduction

This article shows you how to display seat numbers on your Kitchen Display System (KDS) tickets. You will learn how to turn the feature on, choose between the two display styles, and check the result on your KDS screen.

Seat numbers help your kitchen and bar staff prepare and hand off each item to the right guest, which is especially useful for tables with several diners.

Choose a Display Mode

There are three settings to choose from. Pick the one that matches how your station works.

SettingWhat your staff seesBest for
OffNo seat numbers. Tickets look exactly as before.Stations that do not need seat information
Group by seatItems are grouped under a Seat #1, Seat #2 headingKitchens that prepare and serve guest by guest
Seat number on each itemItems stay in one continuous list, each with a small seat tagBars and fast-prep stations that want an unbroken list

You can set a different mode for each KDS device. For example, your kitchen KDS can use Group by seat while your bar KDS uses Seat number on each item.

Tip: If you are not sure which to pick, start with Group by seat. It is the easier of the two to read at a glance.

Turn On Seat Numbers from POS Dashboard

Use this method to configure several KDS devices at once, without walking to each screen.

Step 1: Open the KDS settings

  1. Log in to your BLogic POS Dashboard.
  2. Go to Settings > Prep Printers & KDS.
  3. Select the KDS tab.

Step 2: Set the display mode for each device

  1. Find the device you want to configure in the list.
  2. In the Show seat number on ticket column, open the dropdown for that row.
  3. Select Off, Group by seat, or Seat number on each item.
  4. Repeat for any other KDS devices you want to change.

ℹ️ Note: Each row is a separate KDS device. Changing one row does not affect the others.

Turn On Seat Numbers on the KDS Device

You can also change the setting directly on the KDS screen.

Step 1: Open KDS settings

  1. On the KDS screen, tap the gear icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Find the Layout & Display section.

Step 2: Turn on the setting and choose a mode

  1. Turn on Show seat number on ticket.
  2. Two options appear. Select either Group by seat or Seat number on each item.
  3. Save your changes.

ℹ️ Note: This setting and the POS Dashboard column are the same setting. If you change it on the KDS device, the Dashboard updates as well, and the other way around.

Where to View or Confirm the Result

On the KDS ticket

Open any ticket that has seat numbers assigned. What you see depends on the mode you selected.

Group by seat — items appear under grey Seat #1, Seat #2 headings.

Seat number on each item — items stay in one list, and each one shows a small seat tag.

On the Recently Fulfilled screen

Tap Recently Fulfilled in the top-right corner. When the setting is turned on, the Table/To-Go column shows the seat as well, for example Table 12 - Seat #1.

ℹ️ Note: Items that were not assigned to a seat appear in a normal list with no heading and no seat tag. This is expected.

FAQ

1. Why can’t I see this option?

You may not be on a supported version, or your user role may not have permission to access this setting. Please contact Support if the option is not visible.

2. Do seat numbers only work for dine-in orders?

No. Any item that has a seat assigned will show its seat number, including TO GO orders.

3. Does turning this on change my printed tickets?

No. Printed tickets are not affected by this setting. If your printed tickets already show seat numbers, they will continue to look exactly the same.

4. Will this sync to other modules?

The setting is shared between the KDS device and POS Dashboard, so a change in one place appears in the other. It does not affect the POS, printing, or the All Day View screen.

5. Some items have no seat number. Is something wrong?

No. Only items that were assigned a seat on the POS will show a seat number. Items without one appear as a normal list.

6. What should I do if the feature does not work as expected?

Check that the setting is enabled for that specific KDS device, confirm your store is on a supported version, and contact Support for further assistance.
